- E195-E2 features outstanding performance, lowest noise and fuel emissions

- Right-sizing driving demand for sub-150 seat aircraft in Japan

Tokyo, Japan, 15 November 2022 - The Embraer E195-E2, the quietest and most fuel-efficient single aisle aircraft is on display at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport today as part of a two-day industry conference. The event, organised by Embraer, the market leader of commercial jets up to 150 seats, is set to deepen relationships with Embraer’s airline partners.

Embraer E-Jets are the dominant aircraft family in the sub-150 seat category in Japan with 48 of the first-generation E-Jets operated by Japan Airlines and Fuji Dream Airlines to connect over 30 cities across Japan. These single-aisle jets are globally acclaimed for offering segment-leading passenger comfort, made possible by its two-by-two seating configuration featuring no middle seat, and their 80% share of the US regional market with over 600 E-Jets in service.

The E-Jets fleet in Japan epitomises high reliability and high utilisation: the 12-month average reliability stands at 99.83%, and utilisation is up to seven flights a day with an average turnaround time of 30 minutes.

At the Embraer Day conference, guests will be updated on the latest developments of the E-Jets E2 programme. Airlines such as KLM, Helvetic Airways (operating for SWISS) and Azul operate the E-Jets E2 family of aircraft, and soon with new operators, including Royal Jordanian, Salam Air and TUI, were recently announced.

In addition to the replacement of older aircraft, Embraer foresees part of the country’s existing large narrow-body aircraft fleet right-sizing to sub-150 seat aircraft to create a market demand for around 120 new deliveries in the sub-150 seat aircraft category over the next 20 years.

Last week, the E190-E2 has been granted its Type Certificate by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Throughout the E-Jets E2 family continued to showcase its technical merits by making its debut landing at London’s iconic City Airport (LCY) in July, demonstrating the aircraft’s steep approach capability. Additionally, in June, having already been certified for operations using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blends of up to 50%, the E2 successfully completed a test flight using 100% SAF, further reinforcing Embraer’s commitment to emissions reduction and sustainable aviation.

Embraer in Japan

2022 marks Embraer’s 14th year in Japan. The first E-Jet, an E170, was delivered to Japan Airlines on 30 October 2008. Since then, Embraer’s E-Jet fleet has grown to 48 aircraft: 32 are operated by Japan Airlines’ subsidiary J-Air, with the E-Jets base currently in Osaka. In addition, 16 are operated by Fuji Dream Airlines from its base in Nagoya Komaki Airport.

Embraer’s E-Jets are the dominant aircraft in Japan in the sub-150 seat category. Every three minutes on average, an E-Jet takes off in Japan.

Embraer’s services & support team are also based in Japan, working closely with these airlines and providing comprehensive support for its E-Jets fleet.

Eve Air Mobility, Embraer’s spin-off company that has been listed on the NYSE since May 2022, partnered with Skyports Pte Ltd to support the development of a new Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), including Urban Air Mobility (UAM), for the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB). The initiative aims to provide a shared vision of airspace design, operation, infrastructure, and other benefits to enable AAM operation in Japan.

The collaboration involves partners including Kanematsu Corporation and Japan Airlines.
